Did you know that by regularly changing the oil in your Honda mower you can prolong its life and keep it running at its optimum? It is recommended that you change the oil after every 25 hours of use; this is a fairly simple process that shouldn’t take you more than 15 minutes to complete, providing that you know exactly what you’re doing.
Step 1: Run your mower for at least 5 minutes every single time you are planning on draining the oil. This will warm it up and make it much easier to dispose of.
Step 2: Remove the dipstick from the tank and wipe it free of oil. Then position the drain pan on a flat surface beside your mower, preferably on the side that houses the tank.
Step 3: Lift and tilt your Honda mower to one side, making sure that the tank you removed the dipstick from is closest the ground. Leave these two wheels on the ground as you continue to lift the machine up.
Step 4: Make sure that the tank is centred over the drain pan, then continue to raise the mower until the oil begins to flow freely. Allow all of the oil to drain out until the stream stops flowing.
Step 5: Lower the mower back to the ground, then add some brand new oil into the tank. Take the clean dipstick and insert it into the tank; remove to check the level and add more oil if needed.
Step 6: Take an empty bottle and insert a funnel into the opening. You can then drain the old oil into the bottle from the pan and take to a recycling centre for the appropriate disposal.
Keep in mind that Honda mowers are available in a range of different sizes and that each one will require different amounts of oil before the tank is full. You can find out how much oil your machine requires by checking the owner’s manual, otherwise you can just pour slowly and estimate. Never touch the hot oil you have drained out of the tank, as you may sustain burns.
